I don't know who might be following me here but it is a place to share my responses to this situation. When I think of your children, I think of the place each is on their journey of learning. I think of the sparks in their eyes as they gain understanding or light upon a topic they are interested in. I think of the places where they struggle with being fixed in their beliefs about their own abilities. I think of the encouragement needed to help some believe in their ability to grow.
So I am trying to listen as you work with your children at home. I am trying to change my website to bring better access to creative elements that might spark learning in your particular child. I begin with what I know of your children but I, am at best, a generalist in my knowledge about the children in our class community. You are the experts, seeing them daily over years.
Please, listen to yourself and your child in this time. I will do my best to be a guide and support for you on this journey but I know you are on ground zero with a focus that goes beyond one teacher's expectations. Let me support you in the way that helps you best. It is how I can best support your child in his or her learning. Keep expectations open to leave room for your child's interests so you can collaborate rather than feel you have to be a commander. In the end, I wish you greater closeness and I wish your child a love of family and learning with a greater confidence in themselves. Those are the greatest goals right now and I am willing to be in this with you in pursuing them.
