Learning projects can focus on science and/or social studies topics. I will provide some resource ideas but feel free to pursue a project of interest. If a project takes longer than a week, that is fine. The idea is to work for excellence in learning and presentation so that your child has gained knowledge about our world and feels a sense of accomplishment in what they have completed. The emphasis on these project should focus on
These projects can be things the family can work on together. Alternately, if your child is comfortable with video chatting or emailing with another child in the class, I can help set up a collaboration folder for the kids to work together and I can interact with them.
The idea of these projects is to allow your child to develop the research and design process skills which are the basis of much of our social studies and science learning. I can help children find resources for their own projects or they can use projects such as:
- the design process to create investigations, structures, or experiments to learn more about the world or create a project to show your learning AND/OR
- research to learn more about a topic of interest.

- the Compassion Project in social studies using the planning booklet and exploring compassion through the mazes, readings, and other books of choice. The Dollar Street Project website, and the Marvel Hero Project comics are good resources for thinking of ways others might benefit from support or awareness.
- a research project on a country with a diorama, PowerPoint or other presentation of what is learned (World Community Links in class website gives ideas)
- creating a map of a landscape to go with a creative story
- a STEM project that can be found in the student science folders I will link you to with drawings or photos and a recorded or written explanation of the problem they are trying to solve, their plan to solve it, what they discovered, any changes they made to improve their project, and what they would do to improve it if they had different materials to work with
- Learning coding or check out other creative challenges you will find on the Creative Challenge page of the website
- Explore and learn more about things they discover in one of the sites on the wonder page of the website
- Further explore one of our science themes as indicated in the website.
- A choice project that leads to deeper learning.
